musical meme

Oh, fun! I'm it. notsosage tagged me with a musical meme which is just so perfect for me. Because my inner monologue really does have a soundtrack - I have actually been identified in a public restroom by my humming. I have to admit that I was sorely tempted to load the cd player with 5 discs I thought would clearly say something about me; maybe some John Prine, definitely Liz Phair, maybe even Bill Cosby just for laughs, but this seemed like cheating. So, what I ended up with is two childrens music cd's - but at least they are cool (John Sheldon's "Mighty Fine Hound" and Dan Zanes and Friends "Catch that Train"), KT Tunstall "Eye to the Telescope" (a Christmas gift from my husband), "Prolonging the Magic" by Cake (which I recently checked out of the library), and "Under the Table and Dreaming" by The Dave Matthews band - because the song "Typical Situation" has been in my head lately. Here's how it played out... How does the world see me? 100% Dog, by John Sheldon - believe it or not, I see this as completely accurate AND a compliment (...he was big too, for a beagle...) Will I have a happy life? I Don't Want your Millions, Mister, by Dan Zanes and Friends - a song about "sticking it to the man" (...all I want is the right to BE, Mister, give me back my job again...) This is actually on a kids cd and is sung in part by kids, where are the cheery rhymes of my childhood? And if anyone offers me their millions I'm not above considering it... What do my friends really think of me? Motor, by Cake - (...under my hood is internal combustion power...) Do people secretly lust after me? Pirates Lullaby, by John Sheldon - (...a great big chest of rattlin' bones...) guess not - BUT - (...a big hand full of gold dubloons...) maybe. Or maybe it just means that I put those swashbuckling types to sleep? How can I make myself happy? Suddenly I See, by KT Tunstall - PERFECT. ok, so it's a song about idol worship, but if we're just talking about song titles, then I'll take it as being content with what I have. Or instant better vision would be fine too. What should I do with my life? When You Sleep, by Cake - already supposedly spending a third of my life doing that. Will I ever have children? Choo Choo Ch'boogie, by Dan Zanes and Friends - at the time of conception we were practicing what my husband calls "the Amtrak Method" of birth control - but even Amtrak occasionally fails to pull out on time, hence the answer, yes. What is some good advice for me? False Alarm, by KT Tunstall - huh? How will I be remembered? Black Horse and the Cherry Tree, by KT Tunstall - oh please God, NO! The radio station played that song to death here! (...no no, no no no no, I said no no, you're not the one for me...woohoo, woohoo...) ugh! Ok, ok, song TITLE; yes, a black horse would come in handy when pruning the cherry trees... and I'm sure people would remember the sight of me on horseback with my pruners. What do I think my current theme song is? Sweet Rosyanne, by Dan Zanes with Nick Cave - (... b-bye, b-bye, b-bye...) < what I say to folks getting off of the plane. What does everyone else think my current theme song is? This Train, by John Sheldon - oh, such a beautiful song! I like this one! (...it runs on sun and light and air, it draws its power from everywhere...) What song will play at my funeral? Never There, by Cake - yikes! Can we ignore the lyrics here? What type of men / women do I like? men: Pata Pata, by Dan Zanes and Friends - no clue. women: Sheep go to Heaven, by Cake - yeah, still not getting it. What is my day going to be like? Rhyme and Reason, by The Dave Matthews Band - FINALLY a song from the Dave Matthews disc, only did it have to be the song about addiction? I'm not addicted to alcohol or drugs, but I am addicted to sugar. Today is a school day for Ben and I am alone in the house with the leftover sweets from the holidays... "...oh how I wish I didn't eat the candy to reason with my head But sometimes this thick confusion Grows until I cannot bear it all - Cookie to the mouth, Cookie to the mouth - Take this cookie from my hand, my friend..." But if it's just the song title I'm supposed to look at, then rhyme and reason seems like a pretty harmonious answer. That was fun, thanks! Who knew the ol' cd player was just a big square magic 8 ball?! I'm just SOOOOOO glad that I unloaded all the Christmas music before I was tagged. Now tagging catherine newman.

'kay, so I haven't finished reading yet, but I had to call you out on the "How do my friends see me?" question. I seem to recall that the line, "Satan is my motor," is repeated over and over and over again...Isn't that telling. ;)

Soooo funny. I think I'm going to have to introduce "Amtrak method" into my vocabulary. Except that, being Canadian, it'll have to be the "Via Rail Method" and that's a method that is perhaps even more likely to fail, given its reputation!

Thanks for doing this...it's really very fun and an interesting way to learn more about people in the blogosphere.
